MEDICOLEGAL ASSESSMENT:

Verity Coulter utilizes her experience as an occupational therapist both in Tasmania and South Australia to provide comprehensive occupational therapy assessment and opinion across a wide range of injuries or illness for both plaintiff and defendant purposes. Assessments are  provided on the basis of personal injury claims, workers compensation claims; motor vehicle accidents; public liability; medical negligence or NDIS administrative appeals.

FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVAULATION (FCE):

Verity Coulter is a highly experienced and licenced user of the Workhab International Functional Capacity Evaluation System to complete all Functional Capacity Evaluations with the purpose of determining an injured workers capacity (or incapacity) to meet specific job demands. The worksite can be modified to suit any workplace demands.

This is an internationally licensed assessment tool using capacity profiling, including physiological performance, standardised testing procedures and clinical objectiveness while allowing the client to perform activities in a safe environment. Workhab International is a recognised Industry leader which has been peer reviewed, independently tested and shown to be significantly reliable.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONAL TEST (SFT) and PRE-EMPLOYMENT TESTING:

The Specific Function Test (SFT) uses the Workhab system to measure and analyse a worker’s current capacity to meet specific work demands.  The SFT can also be used to assess and analyse the capacity of an injured worker against the work demands of any suitable duties which they may be returning to, to provide an injured worker, their workplace rehabilitation providers, and their employer with specific information in relation to their capacity to return to work.

The Specific Function Test can be modified to meet specific requirements of any situation.

This SFT can also be implemented as part of pre-employment screening to determine a worker’s capacity and risk of injury prior to commencing employment as part of pre-employment testing.  This assessment can particularly identify potential injury risks and provide strategies to reduce the risk of personal injury.

INJURY MANAGEMENT and COMPLEX CLAIM MANAGEMENT:
Verity is one of Tasmania’s most experienced workplace rehabilitation providers and occupational therapists with almost 25 years experience, and offers specialist skills for complex and high cost claim management, including the management of claims through interstate rehabilitation facilities before transition of rehabilitation back to Tasmania.

Verity is skilled at quickly assessing workplace demands and has a deep understanding of the effects of injuries. She is proficient in overcoming challenges to ensure that an injured worker’s return to work is both effective and sustainable. As part of the Complex Claim Management and ongoing Injury Management, Verity works closely with the injured worker, their treating medical providers, the employer and the insurer to facilitate a timely and sustainable return to work following injury or illness. When workers are unable to return to their pre-injury role, recommendations for alternate employment with more physically appropriate requirements are identified with Verity’s expertise, ensuring successful and sustainable redeployment.

Injury Management is not only provided for compensable injuries, with the same skills and expertise being applied to assist injured workers returned to work after experiencing a significant injury or illness outside of their workplace

ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT:

The ergonomic assessment is an specialist assessment focusing on evaluating a workspace to ensure that it is designed to optimise posture, reduce strain and reduce the risk of injury to the user.  This assessment considers individual biomechanics of the user, and job requirements, to improve working comfort and efficiency whilst reducing musculoskeletal disorders and eye strain for example.

FUNCTIONAL INDEPENDENCE MEASURE (FIM):
Verity is a credentialed assessor for the FIM instrument, which is a basic indicator of the severity of disability.

The FIM instrument comprises 18 items, each of which is assessed against a seven-point ordinal scale, where the higher the score for an item, the more independently the patient is able to perform the tasks assessed by that item. The assessment consists of 13 motor items and five cognitive items. The rating scale designates major graduations in behaviour from dependence to independence, and provides for the classification of individuals by their ability to carry out an activity independently, versus their need for assistance from another person or a device.

Verity is available to utilise the FIM for a variety of insurers to assist in the identification of care and injury requirements.
